Unit 2:

definition --> causal riffs

Look at Tashonda's and Ryan's papers/work and create a causal claim or evaluation claim from their definition argument.

Shiva's claim: Westerners who are gaining patents on indigenous crops and agriculture for their own "new" medicinal purposes and profits are causing...?? I don't know. Does she even have a causal argument?

-She says globalization is causing enclosures, and is excluding some groups of people from being a part of the "global family".

-She says that globalization is the cause of many evils in the world: terrorism, ethnic cleansing, religious intolerance, etc.... What are the real or other causes of these things???

Ok, so she says that westerners are stealing "novel" ideas from indigenous peoples in India and elsewhere, stealing perhaps their identity and invention. She claims that robbing people of their identities causes them to lash out through terrorism at an attempt of gaining identity. So, why have people in India and other places who are being robbed of their seeds, trees, and other such indigenous practices NOT becoming terrorists?

Who are we as a group??

Final Project

Me, Ryan, TaShonda, and....anyone else?

Something to do with family and faith, and society today.

How faith/religion plays a role in sustaining the idea of family?

How changing religions, new religions, more religious tolerance is breaking down the traditional family?

Alternative lifestyles and religious tolerance could be playing a role?

Compare family 50 years ago to family today.

Compare religion in the family 50 years ago to today.

Explore religions elsewhere in the world (Buddhism, Confucianism, Islam, Judaism, as well as Christianity) and how they treat the familial idea.

Causal Argument?:

Because religion/faith is not as prevalent in American families today as earlier in the century, the traditional family in America is struggling to survive.
