New York Times- US AIDS relief in Africa
This article from the New York Times on July 25 this year explains that a bill has been written and proposed to President Bush that will greatly increase US Aid to help fight HIV/AIDS, Malaria, and Tuberculosis around the world. The main focus of this new program will be in Africa with the introduction of new medicines and treatments in some of the countries that have been most devastated by these fatal diseases. It is interesting to note, however, that there is no mention of prevention programs or education programs to teach local people how to stop the spreading of these diseases or at least keep it at bay. As our group has found in our project, education and awareness are the solution to many problems such as this around the world, while increased medication is mostly a temporary "band-aid" on its own. Perhaps we should submit our paper to Congress and the President for them to read...
