"The concrete context of culture-the food we eat, the clothes we wear, the languages we speak, the faiths we hold- is the source of our human identity. However, economic globalization has hijacked culture, reducing it to a consumerist monoculture of McDonald's and Coca-Cola on the hand, and negative identities of hate on each other (113)." Vandana Shiva
At this point, I am going to be completely honest. I get a headache every time I try to read this work. I feel this is just one giant bash and out lash at a world that, no matter how upset people become, is irreversible. Globalization is not going anywhere but deeper into our societies. Adaptation is how a species survives.
I also don't agree with her style of writing. Her explanations are scattered and they switch focus too often. I have a notion in my head that this book, this chapter, is a rant.
Who is the target audience? Who are you preaching to?
