Movies are a big part of our pop-culture. We can all name who the actors were in the film GoodFellas or describe how Jim Carrey spoke as "Ace" in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.
In the same way that Disney's artists repurposed existing ideas and personas in order to create Steamboat Mickey, movie producers have made it common place to remix classic movie scenes into parodies. Often times when I see a new movie come out into theaters and it hits big, I think, "I wonder who is going to make fun of this movie." Examples of these types of parodies include: Scary Movie, Date Movie, Epic Movie, Not Another Teen Movie, Meet the Spartans, and The Comebacks. None of these movies have new ideas. They are just old ideas, and scenes that have already been created, but regurgitated in a way to mock the original. You might think that poking fun at scenes and actors would be considered hurtful or disrespectful, but as my dad always says, "Imitation is the highest form of flattery." Producers can only pull from scenes that are well-known (whether in a good way or a bad way), because if they are not known, the viewers wouldn't understand the parody.
