The Creative Commons license that I chose allows for two things. First, it allows for modifications of my work, so long as I’m given credit for it. Also, it doesn’t allow for commercial use of my work. I have absolutely no problem with sharing my work with other people, at the same time allowing them to change it, rearrange it, switch it up, “remix” it, do whatever they wish with, but under the condition that they always give credit where credit is due. I think this interchange of knowledge and information is both important and essential especially in the society we live today, where means of communication have technologically advanced to the point where the transfer of this information takes only seconds. How could we ever progress as an intelligent group of people if we don’t share knowledge and creativity with each other? What I think might make some people reluctant to share their ideas with others is the mere thought that someone else will steal them without giving them credit. I would include myself in this group, which is why my license includes the one stipulation that, I believe, is most important: attribution.
With respect to the second condition of my license, for me, the sharing of our knowledge among each other has its limitations; that is, commercial use. Like I mentioned before, I would be happy to share my work with others and see them put a new twist on it, which gives way to creativity. However, I am adamant about not allowing these people from benefiting financially from my work, especially if I’m not going to get a cut. If I, for example, write and produce a song, I would 100% be against someone else making profit from it, without me being aware of it. In this case, if anyone were to make profit from this song, it should be me. However, if someone decides to make a remix of my song, I think it would only be fair that the profit made from the sales of the remix be split between myself and the other person. Personally, I think profit should be divided 60/40, 60% going to me and 40% to the person who made the remix, considering the remix is based on my original work.
