English Composition II 1102

Unit One Assignment

1. Rationale

I chose to write about family sustainability. The most important thing in my life is my family and since sustainability is the topic of choice, it only seemed right to put these two together. I always thought I had looked at all the possible views on a family, but I never really looked at how to sustain a family, so I only thought it would be right to investigate.

2. Invention

When I thought about sustainability, I thought about environmental sustainability and I really wanted to stray from that idea. The first thing that came to mind when I heard we had to write a narrative along with the definition, I couldn’t help but decide on my family as my addition to sustainability. After a piece of advice, I decided to define what a family is and then add that to sustainability to arrive at a definition.

3. Composition

One piece of compositional technique I used a peer wrote it in their review of my paper. The peer reviewer wrote that I started out each paragraph with the topic of choice. One part about my paper that I liked was that when my paper switched from defining to adding family with sustainability I used another thesis. Another part was that I tried to use my life as a reference in my paper, yet still keeping it informative.

4. Evaluation

I would like to be evaluated on a few things in my paper. First, I have to be evaluated on how I used my topic of choice, family, to get an overall definition of sustainability. If I am not critiqued on that, I would be getting a fair critique on my paper. Second, I think I need to be critiqued in the overall paper, including the quality of the paper, how the paper flows, and the overall effectiveness of the paper. Third, I believe out of pathos, logos, and ethos, I focused more on pathos, the emotions. Everyone has a family and so I tried to focus on the emotional side of people.
