Causal Arguments...
...in the papers of my groupmates
This is only one argument from each paper.
TaShonda: "Family support, hard times, and faith in God have helped Tashonda become the person she is today with the dreams she has for the future."
Test: Certain inspiring experiences may have caused Tashonda to consider nursing as a career other than taking care of her great-grandmother.
Rephrase: "Family support, hard times, and faith in God are some of the factors in what has made Tashonda the person she is today with the dreams she has for the future." or even broader: "Family support and faith in God are two factors in shaping the youth of America today."
Ryan: "The ever changing world we live in makes it hard to sustain a family."
Test: Has a changing world made it any easier to sustain a family? Modernizations have created opportunities for working mothers to continue to take care of the family. Are there other factors in the hardship of sustaining a family?
Rephrase: "The ever changing world we live in seems to present challenges for sustaining a family."
Rachel: "Overspecialization in non-governmental organizations has caused the predicament that Africa is in."
Test: There are surely other causes of Africa's predicament. What role has political unrest within and between the individual countries played? What was the status of the situation before outside interests became extensively involved?
Rephrase: "The overspecialization of non-governmental organizations is one of many factors that has played a role in causing the predicament Africa is faced with, and it has certainly not been completely effective in solving this problem."
